On the evening of Tuesday, March 15, a van carrying nine members of the University of the Southwest Mustangs men's and women's golf teams was returning home from a golf tournament on a two-lane road in Andrews County, roughly 50 kilometres east of New Mexico.
At that time, officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety said a pickup truck travelling in the opposite direction crossed the centre line and collided with the passenger van. Dayton Price (son of U10 Mississauga Rebels Coach) alongside 20-year-old Hayden Underhill, both of whom are students at the university and members of the golf team, are the lone survivors of the crash. Seven members of the university’s golf team were killed in the crash. The pickup was driven by an unidentified 13-year-old boy. Both the driver and the passenger were also killed.
The Price family is eternally grateful to all the first responders. They have also been inspired and uplifted by the generosity and outpouring of support from their friends, friends of friends, the University of Southwest family and the people of West Texas. Dayton was airlifted to a nearby hospital with 3rd degree burns to his body's better half. At the moment he remains is critical but stable condition.
The Mississauga Rebels Hockey Family is also thinking of Dayton and the Price family as he begins his own recovery.
GoFundMe fundraising pages have been set up for both Dayton Price and Hayden Underhill to help their families cover medical expenses related to the crash. If you wish to support the fundraising efforts of Dayton Price, please click on the link below.
